Weekly Blog #3

Wow, I can’t believe that our third week of senior project has come to an end. This week I learned so much, and spent a countless amount of time weeding and reflecting. Most days our whole five hours of work consisted of endless weeding, and on occasion we were allowed to pick white beans and onions. I can’t say that weeding is my favorite activity on the farm since it is so mindless, and repetitive, but I can say that we made some of the best memories while weeding. When it became so hot, Cat and I, sometimes became slightly delusional. I remember getting so hot, we decided to explore the planks of metal that were suspended over a swamp, next to the row we were weeding. We wandered out on to the two by four planks of steel and started to bounce and we both assumed a, sort of, praying mantis pose, with our hands in the air, and bounced up and down laughing so hard I cried. About half way through the week, we started listening to Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix on tape, and it made the endless work in the heat move so much quicker.
We were also able to do lots of diving this week. We visited many new sites, and also dove one of the wrecks for a second time. Our dives this week really proved how much I had improved. Towards the beginning the trip I would usually dive for 45 minutes and use about 70 to 75 percent of the air win my tank. With more experience, I became more calm underwater, and was able to control my breathing and conserve my air, allowing us to do longer dives. On our last dive of the trip, I dove for 59 minutes and only used half of my tank, a significant difference. I was also able to see a baby trunk fish, something I had been hoping for the whole trip. I feel like my skills developed rapidly and that I would be able to use them confidently in a place of work.
